Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and volunteering for the community. The first line of his family was that his father was the youngest of nine kids raised within Eufala with Lucious Selmon. The second football was that his father was the only of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-America. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week as a volunteer in college. Following graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. There were three times, he was named All-Pro. Then he began his business career. The first job he had was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young males. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of the University of South Florida's sports department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
